Simple, Sweet

I was very excited when this book ended up being centered on Fern instead of Viv as I was quite a fan of the ratfolk from the second book, and the direction that the book went was a pleasant surprise. It starts off making you think it's going to be another entry in the "Fantasy warriors have gentle feelings while getting their local business of the ground" series of adventures, but when the main character has a break and essentially runs away screaming from the 'easy' cozy formula the series has become known for, the story picks up. I did quite enjoy the evolution of the relationships, and Zyll the goblin was an especially interesting character, but it was hard for me at times to like Fern. Being accused of being 'chronically dissatisfied' felt apt, and I don't entirely feel like …
